Course Description
This repeatable elective provides M3/M4 medical students with structured, faculty-supervised opportunities to participate in scholarly activities across basic science research, clinical and translational research, health systems research, and medical education scholarship. Under the guidance of a designated mentor, students develop a focused scholarly question, select appropriate methods, complete required training and regulatory/ethics processes as applicable (e.g., IRB determination/approval), and engage in responsible conduct of research and scholarship. Students are expected to produce a defined scholarly deliverable aligned with the project scope and timeline (e.g., protocol, data set/analysis, abstract, poster/oral presentation, curriculum product with evaluation, or manuscript draft). The elective may be repeated for continued or new scholarly work, with distinct objectives, scope, supervision, and deliverables documented for each enrollment.
